Clinical Education at St. Ambrose

Students in St. Ambrose University's Doctor of Physical Therapy program complete six clinical rotations during their degree. These experiences bridge the gap between academic learning and practical application, ensuring that graduates are well-prepared to enter the workforce as competent and confident physical therapists.

Explore clinical education courses

The clinical education program consists of six clinical experiences integrated into the academic curriculum. 

  • Inpatient care in the first year includes acute care, skilled nursing facility, or inpatient neuro rehabilitation.
  • In year two, students can choose from pediatrics, women's health, sports, lymphedema, wound care, and more.
  • The three final settings (DPT 781, 782, and 784) can be in any order.

*For DPT 781, 782, and 784 one will be in the acute care setting, one in the neuromuscular setting and one in the outpatient orthopedic setting.

They guide students on expected behaviors, support consistent evaluations, and foster a respectful, effective learning environment.
