Why earn a BS in Exercise Science?

SAU's BS in Exercise Science program combines physiology principles with experiential learning. You’ll gain the foundation you need in a supportive and collaborative learning environment and prepare to launch your career.

3+1 in Exercise Physiology

Earn your BS in Exercise Science and MS in Exercise Physiology in four years with our 3+1 program.

3+2.5 in Physical Therapy

Earn your BS in Exercise Science and Doctor of Physical Therapy in five-and-a-half years with our 3+2.5 program.

State-of-the-art facilities

Classes in our Wellness Center feature exercise labs, classrooms and research-grade equipment.

Industry-standard equipment

Get hands-on with metabolic carts, spirometers, Woodway treadmills and more for motion analysis.

Recognized program

Our program is recognized by the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA).

Path to certification

Earn your certification in personal training (CPT), strength and conditioning (CSCS) or exercise physiology (EPC, ACSM-EP).

What you’ll learn in your BS in Exercise Science program

Learn the adaptations that occur during and in response to exercise and human movement through a broad-based study of biology, chemistry, physics, anatomy and physiology. Advanced courses include human movement, exercise physiology and scientific research.

  • Understand career opportunities in kinesiology
  • Apply lab and field tests to assess physical fitness components and disease markers
  • Gain understanding of physiological changes and adaptation related to exercise
  • Develop proficiency in using computational methods to analyze human movement, performance and injury biomechanics both qualitatively and quantitatively
  • Investigate the biomechanical aspects of human movement, performance and injury using computational methods
  • Expand expertise in nutrition and its role in physical activity
