The Quad City Wind Ensemble opens its season with From Darkness to Light on Sunday, October 18, at 3 p.m., a program of theatrical flair, haunting imagination, lyrical beauty, humor, and profound emotion.
The first half features James Barnes’s powerful Third Symphony “Tragic,” a deeply personal work that journeys through grief, darkness, remembrance, and reconciliation. The second half broadens the palette with music by Alfred Reed, Erika Svanoe, Percy Grainger, and Leonard Bernstein, bringing the concert from weight and reflection toward color, wit, and light.
