Meatpacking America & The Importance of Doing Research in our Communities

Kristy Nabhan-Warren, PhD 
Professor, University of Iowa 

Kristy Nabhan-Warren earned her BA from Indiana University, an MA in Religious Studies from Arizona State University, and her PhD in Religious Studies from Indiana University. A professor at the University of Iowa since 2012, Nabhan-Warren is passionate about teaching and research. In both the classroom and in her scholarly work, she focuses on the lived, daily experience of American Christians in their communities. In 2021, she publishedMeatpacking America: How Migration, Work and Faith Unite and Divide the Heartland.” The book explores society and religion in rural Iowa over a seven-year period of systematic fieldwork and participant observation.

THE GEIGER LECTURE

Established through gifts from Professor Geiger’s former students, family, friends, faculty and staff, the Geiger Lecture is an endowed lectureship established in honor of Richard Geiger, who retired from teaching at St. Ambrose in May 2001. Income from the endowment is used to fund an annual lecture in honor of his 39 years as a member of the history faculty. Additional gifts are welcome. As the endowment grows, other history events will be funded.
