Franklin Hall

This suite-style building for sophomores has a capacity of 204 with a comfortable and inviting environment. Study lounges, communal spaces and a community atmosphere help students balance academic pursuits with social connections.

  • Closet dimensions: 32” W x 22” deep, with one foot of storage space above the closet

Tiedemann Hall

Tiedemann has four-person apartments for 124 preferred housing students. Each holds four students in two bedrooms, living area, full-size kitchen, and bathroom. Tiedemann and Hagen connect with a common space containing study rooms, lounge and the hall director's office.

Hagen Hall

Hagen has four- and six-person apartments with single bedrooms for 140 juniors and seniors. Each apartment has a living area, kitchen, and bathroom. Hagen and Tiedemenn connect with a common space containing study rooms, lounge and the hall director's office.

North Hall

This is the newest residence on campus. It offers both traditional dorm rooms and apartments with four single rooms, common living room, kitchenette, and bath. The building holds 204 residents.

  • Double bedroom dimensions: 11' W x 16' with 6’ x 13’ entryway
  • Single rooms include bed (with loft option), dresser, desk, and closet
  • Double rooms include beds (with loft and stacking options), dressers, desks, and closets
  • Bathroom(s) and shower in each apartment and suite
  • Living area in each apartment includes three chairs and coffee table
  • Kitchen in each apartment includes dining table and three chairs, microwave, oven, stove and full-size refrigerator
  • Carpeted floors

  • ADA-accessible rooms
  • Wireless and ethernet hookups
  • Community laundry facilities 
  • ADA rooms are designed for accessibility, and so the layout of an ADA room will vary from the typical layout.

McCarthy Hall

This apartment-style building for preferred housing students holds 96. Each apartment holds four students in two bedrooms, living area, kitchen, and bath. A few two-person units have one bedroom along with living facilities.

Rohlman Hall

Rohlman is a traditional dorm with a capacity of 202 students. The units offer double-occupancy bedrooms with a private bath and shower in each suite. Residents can access study and social lounges on each floor.

Campus Townhouses

SAU has four townhouse buildings consisting of two-story townhouses that hold eight students, for preferred housing students. Each townhouse has a kitchen, living area, four double bedrooms, and two bathrooms. Total capacity is 104.

What are the dining options available on campus?

There are several on-campus cafes and eateries, including our main facility, Cosgrove Cafeteria, that cater to students' varied tastes and preferences with a wide array of nutritious and delicious meals, including customizable options to accommodate dietary needs. There are also grab-and-go options for students on the move.

What safety measures are in place within the dormitories?

At. St. Ambrose University, the safety and well-being of our students are top priorities. Our dorms are equipped with various safety measures to ensure a secure living environment, including:

  • Secure keycard access to dorms for residents only
  • Well-lighted common areas and hallways for enhanced visibility
  • On-site resident advisors (RAs) trained to assist and support students
  • Regular patrols and surveillance by campus security to maintain a safe atmosphere
  • Fire safety protocols and emergency response systems in place

We continuously assess and update our safety procedures to create a comfortable and secure living space for all residents.

How are roommates assigned? Can I choose?

Roommate assignments at St. Ambrose University are typically made based on preferences indicated in the housing application. Freshmen will be assigned by St. Ambrose, but upperclassmen have the option to request specific roommates or suitemates when applying fo housing.

To apply with friends:

  1. Select Preferences: During the housing application process, indicate your preference for a particular roommate or group of friends.
  2. Mutual Requests: Ensure that all individuals mutually request each other to increase the likelihood of living together.
  3. Application Timelines: Submit applications within the specified timelines and follow the outlined procedures for roommate requests.

While we will work to accommodate roommate preferences, assignments are contingent upon availability and other factors. Contact the housing department for detailed guidance on applying with friends for a shared living experience.

Does SAU offer summer housing?

Limited summer housing options are available for students enrolled in specific summer programs, internships, or those with extenuating circumstances. To inquire about summer housing availability, eligibility criteria, and application procedures, please contact the housing department.

While summer housing is limited, we strive to support students' needs during this period to facilitate their continued educational progress or other needs.

Amenities for summer housing

  • FREE: parking (monitored by 24/7 security); utilities; fast Wifi
  • Access to the SAU Library, Wellness and Recreation Center, sand volleyball court (right outside Hagen and Tiedemann), game room, Starbucks in the Beehive
  • Secure living: card-only access and security at front desks
  • Receive mail and packages securely on campus
  • Weekly housekeeping for bathrooms
  • Summer Housing Assistants in each hall are there to help you, conduct nightly security rounds, and plan great events
