What you’ll learn in your Mathematics program

Courses include Calculus and Analytic Geometry, Logic & Proof, Modern Probability & Statistics, and Ordinary Differential Equations. In our Topics and Mathematical Computing courses, you work one-on-one with faculty on research and analysis projects. Our Mathematics program gives you a strong background in elementary number theory, abstract algebra, analysis, statistics, and R programming.

  • A survey of topics in basic applied mathematics stressing the connections between contemporary mathematics and modern society
  • Develop skills in reading and understanding elementary mathematical proofs, and in expressing their own mathematical ideas through formal writing
  • Case study approach to topics in data science: importing, wrangling, visualizing, modeling, and communicating data, with an emphasis on big data
  • Use of mathematical applications and markup languages with an emphasis on R, R-studio, and LateX

What’s on campus for Mathematics students?

The Math Club meets biweekly and hosts multiple activities for students, from nights out playing modular bowling to pizza parties within the department. What are the general admission requirements for a BS in Mathematics?

Ready to become a Bee? Here are the admissions requirements for our Mathematics program.

  • You must have graduated from an accredited high school or earned a GED
  • You must have a minimum cumulative, unweighted GPA of 2.5
  • You must provide an official high school transcript

 

International student requirements

If you live outside of the U.S. there are different admissions requirements. Here’s what you’ll need: 

  • Official transcripts from secondary education
  • A minimum 2.5 CGPA out of a 4.0 scale, or equivalent 
  • Proof of English language proficiency (minimum scores: TOEFL - 79,  IELTS - 6.0)
  • Copy of your passport and other documentation
