First-Year Focus Keegan Harry

05/09/2019

Keegan Harry is a first-year student at St. Ambrose who has a beautiful tenor voice that can fill a room - and your heart.

Harry is a theatre major at St. Ambrose, however, he is leaving next year to pursue a BA in musical theatre with a minor in film or media production at Columbia College, Chicago.

Harry has an extensive background in musical theatre that has led to his love of it.

"I have studied private voice for the past 10 years, dance for about five years total, piano for eight years and have also taken private acting classes on and off," Harry said.

Most recently, Harry dazzled in Speech and Debate, directed by junior T.J. Green, in SAU's Studio Theatre. Though Speech and Debate is a straight play, he still had the opportunity to showcase his voice and some of his dance moves.

"This year, my favorite role was Howie in Speech and Debate," Harry said. "I learned a lot about myself during the production and also from my friends who were involved in the show. It was truly one of the best experiences I have ever had."

Harry also sang in the Musical Theatre Cabaret last semester and was a dancer in SAU's production of Cabaret last year, when he was a prospective student.

Still, there are many roles Harry hopes he will get to play in his lifetime. His dream roles are the Phantom in Phantom of The Opera, Jamie in The Last Five Years, and Clyde in Bonnie and Clyde.

When asked his favorite part about Ambrose, he responded, "The people! The hardest part for me is leaving everyone I have met this year. They all make my days so much easier and more enjoyable. I loved getting to work with all of them during my time here at SAU."

When asked what he will miss most about Ambrose, he said, "Again, the people at SAU are truly some of the most amazing people I have ever met. It makes me a little scared and sad thinking about the fact I might not ever be surrounded by the love I feel here, which is why I will most definitely stay in touch. The connection I have with the people at SAU is truly special, and I will always hold them in my heart."

Harry said he learned a lot while at Ambrose, despite his short time here.

"You must work for it," Harry said. "Ambrose is filled with crazy-talented people who work for it, and it shows. Also, Cory Johnson teaches professionalism, and many other things I admire beyond words. I will never forget some of the lessons I have learned during my time here. Everyone is like family, and I truly don't know if I will ever feel the love anywhere else like I did here."

St. Ambrose and the Theatre Department will miss Harry so much but can't wait to see all the amazing things he does. Once a Bee, always a Bee!
