As a member of our Alumni Association, you have the opportunity to continue your learning throughout your life and career. Through our alumni tours, as well as our campus lectures with world-renowned scholars and professional development trainings with current faculty and staff, we offer you the chance to delve into academic interests and business topics that further your education.

Our learning opportunities run the gamut of subjects and costs, from our new trip to Ireland to 10-day excursions to Italy to study the life of our patron namesake and free academic discussions on the university campus. Some alumni even choose to audit courses!

Trip Dates: Oct. 17, 2019 - Oct. 25, 2019
Trip Highlights: Dublin, Kilkenny, Castlemartyr, Blarney, Killarney, Cliffs of Moher, and more!
Cost: between $4,309 and $5,509, depending on booking options.  See cost tabs for more details.  A deposit of $500 is due upon reservation.

Itinerary
  • Oct. 17 - Overnight Flight departing O'Hare International Airport (Chicago, IL)
  • Oct. 18 - Dublin
    • A chance to see the city.  The evening ends with traditional Irish entertainment
    • Dinner included
  • Oct. 19 - Dublin
    • Available tour options include local driving tour to see St. Patrick's Cathedral, O'Connell Street and Phoenix Park or a walking tour exploring Grafton Street, St. Stephen's Green, and General Post Office (GPO), and the River Liffey.
    • Breakfast included
  • Oct. 20 - Castlemartyr Resort and Cork
    • Travel to Kilkenny and visit a family-run farm, then on to Castlemartyr Resort (once owned by Sir Walter Raleigh).  End the evening with storytelling and exploring the legends that shaped the country's unique culture. 
    • Breakfast, lunch, and dinner included
  • Oct. 21 - The Dunloe Hotel & Gardens and Killarney
    • Available tour options include a guided tour and tasting at Old Midleton Distillery (famous for Jameson Irish Whiskey) or a day to stroll through Castlemartyr's 200 acres and amenities.  Later, you'll travel to Blarney Castle to kiss the Blarney Stone.  The evening will end in Killarney.

  • Oct. 22 - The Dunloe Hotel & Gardens and Killarney
    • Choose a guided tour of the Ring of Kerry; known for plunging cliffs and miles of brillant greenery or stay behind and enjoy a relaxing day at the 5-star resort.

    • Visit the Foynes Flying Boat Museum, then journey to the Cliffs of Moher.  The evening ends at Dromoland Castle.

    • Enjoy a leisurely day at Dromoland Castle or choose an optional excursion to see a sheepdog demonstration in Burren and explore Galaway.  You'll be back in time for dinner at Dromoland Castle to toast the end of an amazing trip.

Italy Study Tour

Trip Details

The Alumni Italy Study Tour to Italy is no ordinary excursion!  Father Bud Grant, an expert on the life of Saint Ambrose, leads participants through back streets and alleys in some of Italy's most beloved cities.  Filled with rich history and culture, this trip will require participants to do as much thinking as walking!  Throughout this intensive visit, you will be intellectually, spiritually, socially, physically, and artistically enriched.  If you are interested in immersing yourself in the life of our Patron Saint, Ambrose of Milan, then this is the experience for you!

Trip Dates: Most recent trip was March 11 - 22, 2018.  Details below are for that experience, but are similar each time.  Next trip is tentatively scheduled for 2020. 
City Stops: Rome, Assisi, Florence, and Milan
Top Destinations: Tomb of Saint Ambrose, The Scavi, Sistine Chapel, Uffizi, Colosseum, and much more!

Considerations

  • Fr. Bud and Ethan are experts on Saint Ambrose of Milan.  They lead an annual study abroad course in Italy, speak Italian, and know the back streets and obscure stories.
  • You will experience many of the world's greatest art collections, ancient ruins, colossal architecture, sacred sites, and intimate cultural details. While this is not an academic course, you will be intellectually, spiritually, socially, physically, and artistically enriched.
  • This is an "athletic" course that will require participants to walk several hours a day for several days in a row in all conditions. Accommodates are modest. There will be some free time each day.
  • The tour is part of St. Ambrose University's initiative to establish the university as a prominent international center for the study or our patron saint. You will end with a much deeper appreciate of Ambrose of Milan, his theology, and his times.
Estimated Costs

Based on 2018 trip, details subject to change.

$3,000 per person.  A non-refundable deposit of $1,000 to secure your place on the trip (due as soon as possible and accepted until capacity is full).  The non-refundable balance of $2000 due on December 1, 2017.

  • Flight arriving to Rome and departing from Milan (approximately $1,500)
  • Majority of meals (approximately $400)
  • Museum entrance fees to a few of the less expensive museums or places you might be interest in visiting during your free time ($100)

These estimates are dependent on exchange rates, how much you eat and drink, and personal shopping. If money remains from the fees paid to St. Ambrose, we will make a donation to the Academy for the Study of Saint Ambrose of Milan (ASSAM).
