Theatre Appreciation Club Plans Trip to Chicago

12/07/2018

The Theatre Appreciation Club (TAC) is heading to Chicago in December, its first major group trip. This newly-formed club spent its first semester volunteering and raising money to help fund it.

TAC hosted several fundraisers this fall semester, starting with the Fresh Face Revue. While the event – which showcased first-year theatre talent – wasn't specifically designed to raise funds, audience members were invited to make donations.

The club's second fundraiser was selling SAU Theatre T-shirts designed by club advisor and Theatre Department Chairperson Daniel Rairdin-Hale '04. More than 50 shirts were purchased by students, faculty, and alumni.

Finally, the club rounded off their efforts with a bake sale in the SAU Rogalski Center Food Court.

Chicago Trip – Dec. 14

Fundraising efforts to pay for the club trip consisted of donations from the Fall Fresh Face Revue and proceeds from a bake sale and T-shirt sales. More than 20 students and three faculty advisors will go on this 2-day trip.

The club, which is comprised of more than 30 members, will bring 22 students and three faculty advisors on this two-day trip to the Windy City. Though time is short in the city, the days will be jam-packed, and attendees will see two professional productions, one of which is A Midsummer Night's Dream at the Chicago Shakespeare Company. They will also enjoy brunch with SAU alumni and will have time to sightsee along the Magnificent Mile.

"The Chicago trip is a great way for our students to get a taste of what the professional theatre world is like," said club director, Luke Peterson. "Between meeting up with SAU alumni in the area, seeing professional shows, and getting backstage tours, the two-day trip is sure to be a great experience for everyone involved! Hopefully, it goes so well we can make it an annual tradition!"

TAC would like to thank all those who supported them, whether it was buying a T-shirt, helping with the bake sale, or just smiling and saying, "Keep the change."

The group leaves for Chicago December 14. Make sure to tune in to St. Ambrose Theatre social media accounts – Facebook and Instagram – to see pictures and updates from the trip.
