The Year Winds Down, but the DBAs are Wound Up

As 2017 winds down, it would seem that the Doctor of Business Administration Department at St. Ambrose really wound up this semester. Many students, alumni, and faculty enjoyed strong accomplishments throughout the year.

Lee Miller, DBA '15 won the Best Paper Award for his paper "International Exploration of Mature and Large Firm Performance" that was presented at the November meeting of the international Conference of Business Management and Social Sciences in Phitsanulok, Thailand.  

Monica Forret gave the keynote address entitled "Networking Behavior: A Reflection on the Past and New Directions for the Future" in November at St. Claret College in Bangalore, India, for their International Conference on People Connect: Networking for Sustainable Development. While at St. Claret College, she also delivered a workshop on "Contributing as a Scholar to Your Discipline: Guidance for Writing, Publishing, and Reviewing," to their Faculty.  

Rev. Sabu George, DBA '14 presented his paper "Networking within Organizations and its Effects on Employee Engagement" at the international Conference on People connect: Networking for Sustainable Development in Bangalore, India.  

St. Ambrose University was also well-represented at the Midwest Academy of Management conference in Chicago this past October.  

DBA students Ann Lazare, Cameron Full, Anil Vegeraju, Les Hollingsworth, Susie Charles-Bonner, Drew Debrey, and Janet Meyer, as well as alumni of the program: Julie Rothbardt DBA '12, Shannon Jurgens DBA '12, Gary Wolbers DBA '12, along with SAU faculty reviewed manuscripts for the conference, served as discussants, and session chairs. Les Hollingsworth and Monica Forret Received Best Reviewer Awards, and Professor David O'Connell, PhD served as Chair for the Toward Impactful Research Track.  

Shannon Jurgens, DBA '12 organized and presented a Professional Development Workshop "Engage with Us! Exploring Experiential Activities."  

DBA students, alumni and faculty had papers accepted for presentation, and two students, Joy Duffe and Lori Brown, had their papers nominated for the Best Paper Award.  

Joy Duffe presented "An Examination of How Human Resource Practices can be Utilized to Help Attract and Retain the Newest Members of the Workforce."  

Lori Brown presented "Contingent Work Arrangements in the Technology and Project Management Fields: Transformation from Full-time Company Employees to Contingent Work."  

Marc Geil, DBA ' 16 and Jessica Greenwald presented "The Influence of Cultural Intelligence, Core Confidence, and Polychronicity on Perceived Global Leadership Effectiveness."  

Mahamet Abdourrahmane and Monica Forret presented "The Pervasiveness of Ghost Worker Practices on the Pay Practices and Morale Among Central African Employees in the Public Service Sector."  

Gianna Avdic-McIntire presented "Potentially Hindering Effects of Perceived Differences in Ethnicity on Perceptions of Efficacy and Promotional Opportunities."  

Gary Wolber, DBA '16 and Arun Pillutla presented "A Process Model for SME Growth: The Differential Role of Relationships and Capabilities Across the Life Cycle."  

Cameron Full presented "Entrepreneurial Improvisational Bricolage: A Facilitator of Deterrent of Small Firm Growth?"  

Janet Meyer presented "The Effects of Abusive Supervision on Employees' Psychological Contracts."  

David O'Connell presented  "Grace at the Interface" and "The Fuzzy DBA Line: Knowledge Transfer and Transformation."  

Drew Debrey and Arun Pillutla presented "Political Ideology and Performance Management: Investigation of an Implicit Bias in Performance Assessment."  

St. Ambrose was not only present at the conference in Chicago, but also at the International Academy of Management meeting held in Atlanta, Georgia, this past August.  

Michelle Edenborg, DBA '13 won Best Reviewer Award from the Business Strategy and Policy Division.  

Paul Guillaume, DBA '15, Sherry Sullivan, and Monica Forret presented their paper "An Empirical Examination of Work Attitudes and Service Quality of Standard and Seasonal Workers."  

Jenna Pieper, Jessica Greenwald, and Steven Schlachter presented their paper "Refer and Earn! Understanding the Effects of Employee Referral Bonus Characteristics, Perceived Risk in Referring, and affective Commitment on Referring Behavior."  

Lastly, Jenna Pieper, Jessica Greenwald, and Steven Schlachter published "Motivating Employee Referrals: The Interactive Effects of the Referral Bonus, Perceived Risk in Referring, and Affective Commitment," in Human Resource Management.  

St. Ambrose University and the Doctor of Business Administration program are extremely proud of our students, alumni, and faculty accomplishments in 2017.
