For the first time ever, St. Ambrose won the spirit award, which was announced at the mid-week ceremony. This was a huge testament to the Ambrose family beyond the tech team (Team Redbeard).
The cheering section spent a considerable amount of time inventing clever cheers and chants to recite as Team Redbeard took the stage.
"I had a blast being the head member of the SAU Team Redbeard Cheerleading Squad," said Reilly, head of the cheering section. "I got to exert all of the energy I had, plus more, while being creative at the drop of a dime. Since this was my first KCACTF, I had no idea what it was like, so when I finally came face to face with my cheerleading competition, I knew I had to go above and beyond. I originally did not feel any pressure when it came to the tech spirit. I knew it had to be done."
"During dinnertime, previous tech team member junior Kiara "KT" Thomas, first-year K. Hampton and some members of the tech team came up with some original rhymes that were really going to pack the spirit punch," Reilly said. "Once it was announced that we were going to the finals, I channeled my inner metal-band screamer and prepared for what I was about to face in the next few hours."
At the end of the day, the entire SAU group came home feeling closer than ever because of what they accomplished as both a team and a family.
"I was ecstatic when I found out that we had won and was happy that we came home with a really cool trophy but a better group of people," Lange said.
Once again, Team Redbeard represented St. Ambrose University in the best way they could, and the experience was one that brought them closer than ever.
