According to tradition, there is no collection taken during St. Ambrose's Commencement Mass. This year, however, at the urging of many 2008 graduates, campus ministry decided to break with this precedent to benefit those affected by the terrible devastation in Myanmar. The plan was to forward all monies raised to Catholic Relief Services, an organization with an excellent reputation for getting resources to the people who need them.
The total was $2,198, an outcome that surprised even campus ministry staff members. But in light of the Ambrosian spirit of service and stewardship, it was perhaps not so surprising after all.
