The Midwest Collegiate Conference announced that St. Ambrose University has won the Commissioner's Cup for the 2007-08 athletic season. The trophy honors all-around athletic excellence among its member schools.
The Commissioner's Cup is awarded to the institution with the highest cumulative score as determined by a scoring method used by the league. Points are awarded based on the school's finish after completion of each of the sports sponsored by the MCC.
Among the highlights of St. Ambrose’s 2007-08 athletic season were seven regular-season team championships (men’s cross country, men’s soccer, women’s basketball, men’s golf, women’s golf, men’s track and field, baseball) and two MCC Tournament championships (women’s soccer, women’s basketball).
St. Ambrose had three team national qualifiers in 2007-08. The Queen Bees basketball program finished its season with a 29-5 record, a trip to the Sweet 16 at the NAIA National Tournament, and a No. 15 national ranking. The No. 15 SAU men’s golf team captured its fifth consecutive MCC Championship and earned its sixth consecutive trip to the NAIA National Championships. The No. 18 SAU women’s golf team won its sixth consecutive MCC title and a National Championship berth.
