Final Production of the Year

03/07/2018

Welcome to the last show of our season, Cabaret!

Taking place in 1931 Berlin, this vivacious musical brings to life the rise of the Nazi party in juxtaposition to the raucous Kit Kat Klub, a sultry spot for travelers and regulars alike. Centering around Sally Bowles, a larger-than-life performer, this production will be sure to arouse not only your senses but a sense of purpose and drive to an issue that has become all too familiar to us. Intolerance, hatred, violence, and seclusion are all wrapped up with a seductive little bow to create a story both mesmerizing and meaningful.

Tyler Hughes, a first-year student here at Ambrose, is especially excited about the spectacular dances that our guest choreographer, Andrea Moore has already begun staging.

"I don't normally do a whole lot of musicals, and the musicals I do get in are usually focused on songs and not dancing. So to be in a show where not just the songs, but my character is focused on movement and dancing is a new and exciting experience for me."

The cast is very aware of the poignant nature of this production. Sophomore T.J. Green, who will be playing Herr Schultz, reflected this sentiment.

"Cabaret opens up a very necessary dialogue about the dangers of prejudice and indifference, and I am thrilled to be a part of such an unfortunately timely show," he said.

"This show represents to me a challenge and the very relevant problem of ignorance in society," said sophomore Jessica Karolczak, who plays one of the Kit Kat girls. "I am very excited to challenge myself while presenting a valuable message with amazing people."

Opening April 20, this production will run one weekend and is free for SAU students with a valid ID! Shows are Friday, April 20 at 7:30p.m; Saturday, April 21 at 7:30 p.m.; and Sunday, April 22 at 3 p.m.
