Carol McCoy

Disability Service Provider

Carol is one of two disability service providers (DSP) in the ARC. As a disability service provider, Carol works with students who request academic accommodations such as books in alternative format, note taker services, exam accommodations, self-advocacy, and "pre-advising".  Carol works closely with faculty and staff to ensure that students receive their accommodations and to help faculty and students navigate accessibility in the classroom.

How long have you been at St. Ambrose & why do you stay?

July 1, 2023 will be my 20-year anniversary as an employee. Prior to that, I was a student and graduate assistant in Student Disability Services (the former name for ARC). The students and the culture of caring keep me here. I have seen the Ambrose community flock around people in need to provide sustenance, care, and hope. That is a special thing.

Why do you do this job?

I love college students! They are energetic, bright, eager, and full of aspirations and ideas.  It is a privilege to watch them mature and discover who they are and how they fit into the world. Even after over 20 years, I never tire of them.

Which three words describe you best?

Compassionate, Persistent, "Mother hen"
